This course is clearly designed so that someone new to martial arts can start from scratch and build up their foundational skills, but as long time martial artist myself I also LOVED it. I know that practice makes progress but I've been frustrated at points in the past because I didn't have a partner to practice with or because I didn't remember exactly what the drills/steps were. This course spells out how to practice on your own and you can feel yourself improving as long as you get your reps in. Loved the clarity and focus of each lesson and I hope there are more Core Combat courses coming!

"Solo Silat at Home" is an easy to follow & digestible video program for any martial art enthusiast. The videos are clean, good lighting & Coach Sakan has very clear vocal instructions. The moves are sharp, easy to follow & it feels as if coach was at the gym in front of his students. Definitely worth the value!

This is something ive needed in my Silat. There are no traditional schools in my area that teach Silat let alone teach the technique with the correct vocabulary. I really appreciate this Guru Sakam

Being a Kung Fu Instructor as well as training in five different other styles of martial arts I had doubts about online martial arts classes. However after doing some of the Silat at home courses I am thoroughly convinced one could train in the basics and even some of the more advanced techniques in Silat. First Sakan gives very clear instructions on how to do the Silat exercises. Also he gives the "why" behind the moves which I find most important in any kind of instruction. Second Silat is a beautiful and deadly art As seen in The Raid Redemption. Sakan has the ability to demonstrate the aesthetic and effectiveness of the this ancient art, Third the online structure of the class is easy to follow.The color scheme, the status bars, the check marks of sections complete actually give you sense of progress being tracked as well as completion.Also I am a big fan of the solo pad training and would like to add it in to my normal martial arts training. I like this Silat online training because it gives you breathing exercises, weaponry, strikes, take downs and my favorite the Silat Martial art forms! everything you need to work out and train solo. Its really hard to point out flaws in this solo online training. But ill give some things I think should be added on. I think at least once a week should be a live session where very one gets together to train and get some live feedback from other students and Sakan himself! Also have a form of "testing" so the student can upload videos of themselves doing the forms and weapons routines etc so Sakan can Grade and give feedback All in all great class and I will be giving my recommendations to my friends peers and students!!

My point of reference for this review is in person classes with Sakan, and dozens of online classes. This course very nicely covers the Silat basics and drills. The video player is responsive enough that skipping back a few seconds for review does not lag my browser. The audio is clear, with no echo or buzz to impede your understanding. The camera angle is positioned perfectly to capture the footwork. Which is fantastic as I find that to be the most challenging to learn yet rewarding element of Silat. It does feel silly at first to be holding the pad that you’re striking, but once you get over than its much more satisfying than throwing reps into the air. I’ve always struggled with remembering all the steps to the Silat takedowns, being able to review the video from front and side angles really helped my understanding.

The "Solo Silat at Home" course is a very comprehensive introduction into the basic techniques of Silat. The techniques are explained and presented with a great attention to detail that makes them easy to understand, even for beginners. Even having some background in Silat I feel like I learned a lot from this. I realized that the techniques will help me with other martial arts I practise. The importance of balance and shifting your weight correctly will even help with MMA training (especially with take downs). The striking techniques will help improve your power as well as training you to keep your elbows in (so you are not telegraphing your punches). I highly recommend this course to anyone who is interested in learning something new or just work on improving on the basics. Don't shy away from it even if you are a beginner. Sakan is a great teacher and I am sure you will get a lot out of this!
